Pastoralism and Policy Capacity
RECONCILE has for the past three years been implementing the Programme on the Reinforcement of Pastoral Civic Society in East Africa jointly with the Drylands Programme of the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). The programme, which has recently come to an end, provided strategic framework for supporting capacity development for pastoral groups in East Africa to work together in advocating for policy frameworks that are supportive of pastoralism as a livelihood and land use system.
RECONCILE intends to continue working in this area, building on the work of the last three years and to carry forward the ideas that came out of the evaluation of the said programme. The project on Pastoralism and Policy Capacity shall work with pastoral civil society to build local organizational and managerial capacity, address the knowledge gap about pastoralism as a land use and livelihood system within development policy circles and enhance the capacity of pastoralists to mobilize themselves for effective policy influence.
