We Can Alliance

We Can is a global campaign that seeks to reduce the social acceptance of violence against women and consequently prevent it. The campaign is built on the premise that people have the capacity to change themselves and others; hence people can change attitudes and behavior that support violence and discrimination against women. Accordingly, We Can provides a common platform for everybody to become active participants in combating violence against women. The campaign calls for individuals (women, girls, men and boys) to become ‘Change makers’to change themselves first and then to change others. These ‘Change makers’ are the central force of the campaign; they actively encourage positive non-discriminatory attitudes and behaviors towards women in their families and the communities they live and work and question all forms of violence against women. Change makers do this through challenging common gender biased stereotypes, attitudes, behavior patterns and inequalities, positive role modeling (demonstrating alternative behavior and values), raising awareness on violence against women and recruiting other change makers. We Can invites diverse local organizations wishing to engage on the issue of violence against women to become part of ‘We Can Alliance’, and implement the campaign. Key campaign activities revolve around change maker recruitment, alliance building, and public outreach and campaign visibility. Alliance members recruit and support change makers, disseminate communication materials, organize campaign events, engage in collective actions on violence against women and build campaign networks through knowledge and skills sharing and talking to others about the campaign strategy.

Launched in 2008 in Kenya, We Can aims to mobilize 1.3 million change makers and by extension inspire 13 million people across the country to oppose violence against women by 2012. The campaign is currently active in five regions namely Nairobi, Central, Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western.

RECONCILE is mandated to work in rift valley and mainly with the flower farms and our focus is in Naivasha why they is a lot of flower farm. The main aim is to change the community altitudes towards the gender based violence and to value one another in the family

A Change maker is any person who renounces violence against women and commits to influence ten other people they know to change their attitudes and behaviour.
